PERSONAL GEAR LIST
- backpack (large enough to hold all of the following plus group gear and food)
- sleeping bag and stuff sack (down-filled bags NOT allowed)
- lash straps (to hold sleeping bag on pack) NO BUNGEE CORDS
- closed cell foam pad (provides ground insulation)
- sturdy hiking boots
- tennis shoes (for running and stream crossings)(No Teva's or Aqua-sox)
- water bottle (wide-mouth, quart/liter size)
- cup, spoon, and 12-16 oz insulated mug (all unbreakable)
- pocket knife (keep it simple - blade & can opener are enough)
- sturdy flashlight with extra batteries
- compass for MAP work (liquid filled silva-type)
- whistle (for emergency signaling - standard 'referee' type with neck cord)
- matches in waterproof case OR waterproof matches
- heavy duty garbage bags (4 large - to keep things dry)
- nylon poncho or rain parka (plastic varieties do not hold up)
- lightweight windproof parka (can be same as rain parka)
- WOOL or PILE pants (1 pair)
- WOOL or PILE shirt (provides major cold-weather insulation)
- WOOL or PILE sweater (provides major cold-weather insulation)
- WOOL or PILE hat
- WOOL or PILE gloves or mittens (2 pair)
- WOOL or PILE sox (4 pair heavy)
- lightweight sox (2 pair)
- lightweight pants (NO JEANS)
- long underwear (top and bottom) (wool blend or polypro recommended)
- long sleeved shirt
- T-shirt (1 or 2)
- bandanna (several)
- shorts (1 or 2) (lightweight, quick dry)
- for the women - sports-bra (1)
- small journal notebook with pen or pencil
- small first aid kit (should include: molefoam, bandaids, aspirin)
- personal items (limit these to essentials such as toothbrush, $$ for 2 meals)
