Venus in this month's sky
Although Venus is technically still in the evening sky after sunset, the planet is so low in the sky due to the tilt of the ecliptic this time of year, that it is practically unobservable. It will be at greatest western elongation next January 8, as a brilliant morning object
Venus alternates between evening and morning apparitions, never straying too far from the Sun in our sky. This link also will calculate the various alignments of the planet as both it and Earth orbit the Sun. Is it really possible to see Venus without a telescope? Of course! In fact, the Morning Star becomes so bright at times that some observers might mistake it for something artificial.
