Saturn in this month's sky

Saturn as seen by Voyager    Saturn is in the morning sky in November and rises just a couple of hours before sunrise. The ringed planet is fairly prominent in the southeast as dawn begins to break, but nowhere near as bright as Venus which is below and to the left of Saturn. It will enter the evening sky early next year. Saturn can be found in the constellation of Virgo these days.

Saturn is a fine sight in even a small telescope. It is engaging to spot the larger moons of Saturn as they orbit around the planet.

You can try to see the rings of Saturn. Dig out that little telescope someone gave you as a gift. With a steady telescope and some patience, you might be able to see Cassini's division in the rings. You will see something like this:

Saturn Through a Small Telescope

Try it! You will be pleasantly surprised. The rings of Saturn have opened up a little now and are putting on a fine show.
