The New Moon

You will not see the Moon in this phase since, on this day, the Moon passes by the Sun as seen from the surface of Earth. Shouldn't that cause an eclipse? Every six months or so we do see a solar eclipse at the time of New Moon. But most of the time, the Moon passes north or south of the Sun and the shadow of the Moon does not fall on the Earth.

See my page on eclipses for a more thorough explanation of eclipses.
