In May, Neptune is low in the southeast before sunrise. Neptune will be at its best in late summer when it comes into opposition on August 20. In a modest size telescope, Neptune, like Uranus, gives itself away by its distinctive blue-green color. But the disk of Neptune is only two seconds of arc across, or so. It is a much greater challenge to see the disk of this planet, let alone find it in anything less than a dark sky.
Here is some help from Sky &
Telescope magazine to find this planet.
