Phases of the Moon

As increased artificial lighting at night destroys our night sky, the Moon still shines through. We have all caught glimpses of the Moon and have noticed its changing appearance, but how familiar are you with the pattern of those changes? For example, did you know that, generally speaking, the Moon is above your horizon for 12 hours of every day of the month? It is certainly true that there are times in the month when seeing the the Moon when it is above the horizon is almost impossible because of its phase and the brightness of the daytime sky. It is only around Full Moon when Earth's companion rises conveniently around the time that the Sun is setting.

Here is a page from NASA that gives you the dates of the primary phases of the Moon from now through 2025.
