Mars in this month's sky
In September, the Red Planet is very low in the southwest after sunset. Look for it below and to the right of the star Regulus of Leo. Mars was in opposition at the begining of this year and has been a nice evening object all summer.
Now Mars will pass behind the Sun on February 4 of next year and be lost in the Sun until next summer. As it orbits the Sun and we catch up to it again, we will see the next opposition of Mars in 2012.
