The Great Square of Andromeda is in the east after sunset. The constellation of Andromeda is home to the famous M31 spiral galaxy, the closest spiral galaxy to our own Milky Way. If you are fortunate enough to have truly dark skies, The Great Galaxy in Andromeda is really quite easy to see with the unaided eye. When you look at this object, you are seeing something that is more than two million light years away. The light that then strikes your eye left the galaxy before human beings even existed.
