This is the twenty-sixth anniversary of the flyby of the Soviet space probe VEGA past Halley's comet.
The bright star all by itself in the northwest sky at sunset is called Capella. The fourth planet orbiting this star is home to an interesting race, at least in the universe of Star Trek.
