Today, U.T. the Sun reaches its northernmost point on the ecliptic. This is the Summer Solstice. In the northern United States, there are about fifteen hours of daylight this day. It is only completely dark for about six hours or so; not so good for astronomers. Here, by the way, is a very nice explanation of the reasons for seasons
