This is Imbolc, or Groundhog Day. Many ancient cultures considered this day to be the end of winter and the begining of spring. Around here in Michigan, we still can expect quite a bit of good (bad?) winter weather yet to come. Maybe that is where that story of the groundhog predicting the weather comes from.
