December 14, 2011          Moonrise Calculator

Early this morning, go out and enjoy the Geminid meteor shower. The shower should actually peak at 17 hours U.T. today, which would be noon for the east coast of the United States. Observers in the Pacific might get a better look. For those of you in the far northern latitudes, you must brave the snows of winter in order to enjoy one of the best showers of the year.

Look in the east after midnight. The Moon should not interfere with your viewing.

Today marks thirty-nine years since humans have been on the Moon. Yes, it has been nearly forty years since Apollo 17.

Today is also the birthday of Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe. Take a moose to lunch!
