    This is the most important date of the year for a number of reasons. First, it is the date of the annual Perseid meteor shower, just one of many showers throughout any year.

     It is also the anniversary of the discovery of the moons of Mars. This discovery of Phobos and Deimos was made possible by Asaph Hall's wife.

     And speaking of wives, August 12th is my wedding anniversary.
